Tramping Reports Wednesday 2010 Feb 09 to Tuesday 2010 Feb 15

Wednesday: Peter Reimann ran a Fit trip From Otaki Forks to Mt Hector and return, with 5 members. One member had to pull out at Field Hut due to suspected cracked ribs from a previous trip. Another turned back at Mt Dennan with a sole parted from his boot. The rest carried on to Hector. 9.5 hrs in total including breaks/lunch.

Dave Gobey's BBB trip to the Patent Slip went according to plan, and the weather was better than expected. 6 members, 1 non-member.

Glenys Evans led an E/M trip Porirua Scenic Reserve – Takapuwahia Stm – Colonial Knob. It attracted 14 members, 1 non-member. The trip went well except that one member fell in the stream bed and cut his arm. He was bandaged up by other members of the party, and completed the trip, but later attended A & E.

Jenny Olsen's cycle trip - Whitireia Loop, Porirua - was a lovely evening ride for 3 members.

Hayden Richards led a Fit / Climbing trip with 3 members, down Chamberlain Creek on Thursday. They completed the whole loop in an 18.5 hour day. Quote "Great fun, everyone was tired."

Weekend:

Vivienne Radcliffe's trip to Tararua Lodge did not run.

Alan Wright's Neill-Winchcombe M trip turned out to be challenging. In poor visibility just past the top of Winchcombe, they mislaid the track and were unable to find it again before dark. They camped out in the tussock and got through the night warm and relatively dry. In the morning with continuing murk, strong winds and navigational difficulties, they decided to turn back and exited at Waiohine. 12 hours Saturday, 10 on Sunday. 5 members.

Julia Fraser's Orongorongo Explorer trip (E) was enjoyed by 6 members and 2 non-members. They explored, swam, and cooked a gourmet meal for Saturday dinner. The hut was immaculate when they arrived and of course they left it in the same condition.

Lorraine Johns' rock-climbing trip (Wharepapa South) was postponed because of weather.

Saturday:

Colin Cook led a Medium trip, from Waerenga Hut: SE up Greens Stream lesser spur, NE along the range to Bump 797, N down the spur to Waerenga Hut. Cloud obligingly lifted to allow lunch with a view over Palliser Bay. Buddleja in Greens Stream and Lawyer along ridge tops is thriving. Borrowing two from Julia Fraser's Orongorongo Explorer party, there were five members and one non-member.

Sunday:

Jude Willis led a Medium trip Walls – Reeves - Walls, which attracted 3 members and 1 non-member, 7 hours.

Total 50 members and 6 non members
