Tramping Reports Wednesday 2010 Feb 16 to Tuesday 2010 Feb 22

Wednesday:

On David Ogilvies's Fit trip, 8 members took just over 10 hours to do a Barra track – old Bartons track – Baldy – Fall stream spur - Waingawa river loop. A cloudy day made it reasonably pleasant tramping conditions but 4 of the party received wasp stings on Fall stream spur.

Sheelagh Leary led an E trip to the ridges at the southern end of the Mangaroa Valley, which attracted 24 people - 16 members and 8 non-members. All enjoyed a chance to see a less-visited part of the region.

Jenny Olsen's evening ride was cancelled for lack of interest.

Weekend:

On Liz Martin's E/M trip, 7 members and 1 non-member had a fantastic weekend on the Tararua Tops. They had wonderful views from the top of Hector and a lively evening at Kime Hut. On the way up to Field on Friday night, they came across some goo in the crack of a rock, that glowed in the dark. They would be very pleased if anyone in the Club could shed light on this phenomenon.

Michelle Rush led a Family trip to Totara Flats Hut. 8 children and 6 adults (3 non-members) tramped in to Totara Flats Hut. They went for a walk to the old hut that evening and were attacked by wasps. Three people stung, and one of them, a little girl, got 20 stings. After rest and comforting she was fine, and all enjoyed the walk out.

Saturday:

Tim McGuiness led 4 members on a M walk Blackwater - Gable End - Ohau. Lovely weather, an excellent day for stream travel.

Sunday:

Don Crump led a bike ride, Khandallah - Johnsonville - Makara - Karori and along the Skyline to Crofton Downs. 4 hours (with one flat tyre). Hot but great views. 5 members.

The Bushcraft Map & Compass course met in the clubrooms for instruction and then practised what they'd learned on a circuit of Belmont trig.

Nick? led a Family walk, Moa Point to Breaker Bay beach track... no report 380 6868

Total 51 members and 12 non members
