Tramping Reports Wednesday 2013 Apr 24 to Tuesday 2013 Apr 30
Wednesday:
Paul Jones led a walk to Red Rocks (E, 11 members 3 non-member). It was a beautiful day. They walked to Hell's Gate, then up to the top of the hill just past there, where they got good views. Back down and returned along the beach. They saw plenty of seals.
John Hill led a Belmont Regional Park walk (EM) 9 members.
Paddy Gresham led a Mt Frith, Abbotts Creek M 9 members.
On Colin Cook's MF walk, 5 members ventured up the TR of the Otaki Gorge (the opposite side from the now defunct Penn Creek Track). There was some jousting with supplejack but they made it through to the outlier bump opposite Tirotiro Knob. On the way they climbed around a 10-15 m waterfall in one of the side streams.
Weekend:
Carol Kelly's M trip Ohau to Otaki via Dracophylum Biv was cancelled due to WX.
Patrick Arnold's climbing trip (Travers S ridge) was cancelled due to WX.
Saturday:
Neil Challands had a MF trips: Four members went from Tunnel Gully up and along the Tunnel ridge before descending a long spur towards the Pakuratahi river. They then crossed a gully to the north but the leader had forgotten that lowland gullies tend to be clogged with rapacious supple jack. Not a recommended route. It ended up a 9 hour day.
