Tramping Reports Wednesday 2010 Nov 10 to Tuesday 2010 Nov 16

Wednesday: David Ogilvie ran an M/F Block XVI circuit. They had a lovely day. They looked for Alloway Dixon Hut and found some beer bottles, so maybe it was nearby. 4 members, 10 hours.

Brenda Neill led a Ramble to Fern Gully. The bush was just beautiful, a lovely trip. 9 members, 1 non-member.

Weekend:

Carol Kelly's trip to Taranaki Pouakai Circuit was cancelled due to lack of interest.

Peter Shanahan's Map/Compass revision was cancelled as Ray Goldring couldn't make it, but will hopefully be rescheduled early next year.

Don & Barbara Crump's Wairarapa Area Bike (E/M) had 12 members. On Saturday they rode through Glendhu Station to the coast and Honeycomb Rock. On Sunday they rode 12 km of the 80 km "Admiral's Revenge" route.

Family:

Michele Rush led Car camping at Kaitoke. 33 were at dinner and 19 stayed overnight. Saturday had a drizzly start but from Sat afternoon the weather was fine. Kevin and Catherine Barnes, ex TTC members now living in Christchurch, joined them for part of the weekend.

Saturday: Pete Smith led the Annual Clubrooms Work Party. The clubrooms workparty didn’t get off to a good start, the skip hadn't been delivered to the clubrooms on Saturday when it should have been and the power to the clubrooms was cut off at 8:30am and wasn’t restored till gone midday. But despite these set backs we had an excellent workparty.

The vegetation from the back & side of the hall was cut back, the weeds from between the concrete removed, the broken sash cord in the kitchen window replaced, hall blinds and back table repaired, hall windows serviced and repaired, hooks put on the back noticeboards, towel rails put in the toilets, the worst part of the building was water blasted to remove excess dirt and grim once the power was restored and the clubrooms were given a good cleanout.

We had to rush in a gas stove from outside to heat the water for morning tea. Most jobs were completed by just gone midday. (And several people brought yummy plates).

So a big thankyou to Neil Johnstone, Vicky Wogan, Jenny Lewis, Trish Gardiner-Smith, Sue Boyde, Terence, the clubrooms committee of Alan, Kathy, John, Jim & Peter and the three girls Karen, Dushca and Kathy from Kidsztuff who came along to help us and sort out some of their own gear.

Grant Timlins led a trip to Wainuiomata Water Catchment(M) 14 members and 1 non-member were on Grant's trip into the Orongorongo water catchment last weekend. They drove to the top of the ridge and then did a loop into the upper headwaters of the Orongorongo river. Pleasant in spite of the rain.

Sunday:

Barbara Mitcalfe & Chris Horne led a Native Plant Identification Trip (E) to Otari, Wilson's Bush and Johnson Hill Reserve, with 8 members. Perfect conditions, interesting plant communities, lots of discussion about the plants.

Climbing:

Stu Hutson's trip to Mt Aspiring (Grade 3, M/F) was a total success. 4 members walked in to Colin Todd's Hut in 2 days. They climbed Rolling Pin for a starter. The next day all 4 summitted Aspiring in 12 hours, in perfect weather. Leaving 3 am, via the Ramp, back down by 3 pm. They stayed two more days before breaking weather drove them out.

Total 80 members and 5 non members
