Tramping Reports Wednesday 2010 Nov 03 to Tuesday 2010 Nov 09
Wednesday: Lois Hope ran an Easy trip exploring Khandallah, Ngaio and Crofton Downs with 13 members, and 4 non members. It was a warm sunny day. They had lunch in Cummings Park.
John Thomson led a Medium trip to Waiohine Peak, with 7 members. They had a cold crossing of the Waiohine, crotch to waist deep. Then a perfect day, reaching the top of Waiohine.
Nov 1 - 4: Diane Head led an Easy/Medium trip to Eastern Taranaki. 10 members had a most enjoyable experience, with two nights farmstays and one night at the memorable Whangamomona Hotel. They visited a rhododendrum garden which had 750 different varieties, amazing. They tramped the Kurapete Road in to the Matemateaonga track and back out on the track, and walked the Whangamomona road which follows the Whangamomona River into the town. Lastly they did a nearby three hour ridge track.
Weekend:
Paul Maxim led a Ski touring weekend with 4 members and 1 non-member. Saturday Wx was too wild for them to go out. On Sunday they had a fantastic day on the east side of the mountain, including skiing 2 of the big glaciers.
Hugh Barr's Field Hut work party / 86th birthday was cacelled due to lack of participants, as was Alison Handley's Sunday M trip to Totara Stm-Pig Flat-Donnelly’s Flat. The Sat M/F trip was cancelled for lack of a leader.
Lyn Taylor led an Easy/Medium trip up the Atiwhakatu and up to Jumbo Hut. Sunday they headed up to the tops in snow with intermittent fine views of the snow-covered range, before returning down the Jumbo track. 6 members, 2 non-members.
Alan Wright led a Medium trip Atiwhakatu - Baldy - Jumbo. On Saturday they headed up to Jumbo but found the weather too wild so came back down the valley to Atiwhakatu and up to Jumbo Hut. On Sunday they headed up to Jumbo and walked on around to Baldy over the Broken Axe Pinnacles in the snow and spectacular weather. It was a 13.5 hour day by the time they got back to the cars. 5 members.
Family:
Kerrie Kubisch led the Mums' trip with 7 members and 1 non-member. They stayed in Martinborough. They visited the Pinnacles, did the Rapaki walk, and had a cycle trip.

Wed 10 John Hart's trip to Fern Gully will be led by Brenda Neill 475 7397. Ramble, 3 hours.
