A Holdsworth- Jumbo trip morphed into two, with the botanists heading down East Holdsworth to successfully hunt for orchids, and the rest of us completing the proposed route. We bumped into the weekend TTC party coming up to stay at Jumbo and then reunited with the botanists for a swim at Donnely's Flat. Perfect blue bird conditions, with barely a breath of wind.

Mt Crawford/Matai Moana - Shelly Bay - Maupuia, E, Chris Horne
1.8 people: 7 members, 1 non-member - (formerly a member); plus "Twyla" the dog;
2.fine, sometimes brisk nor'wester;
3.guided tour by Murray Robinson of Miramar Community Gardens at former Wellington Prison;
4.climb to summit of Mt Crawford/Matai Moana;
5.lunch @ site of former Women's Reformatory;
6.descent of WW2 road towards Shelly Bay; inspecting 1 of the 10 former munitions bunkers;
7.round coast & up Piki ki Maupuia Walkway & south along it to bus stop for trip homewards.
