Wednesday
Dave Reynolds led the Medium trip from the Catchpole carpark and up to Turere lodge, arriving for a bite to eat. It looked rather wet further up river and on Turere spur so we returned by way of Cattle Ridge, with 9 members.
Diane Barnes led a trip yo the West Wind Recreational Area trip. Unfortunately, the Loop Track I had intended to do was closed, but we managed to have an enjoyable time looking at other areas and finding a sheltered spot for lunch, with 7 members.
Dave Ogilvie postponed my slow-fit trip up Jumbo due to the forecast strong wind, low cloud and rain. Instead I offered to lead this on Friday, which resulted in 3 members reaching the summit (1405 m) in fine but partly cloudy weather after lunching at Jumbo Hut. The temperature was pleasant for tramping so we completed the trip in under 9 hr, with 3 members.
Saturday
Diana Munster led a day Mountain biking trip to Loop : McLintoch Street Johnsonville – Churton Park Takapu Road – Kenepuru -Colonial Knob- Ohariu Valley Old Coach Road McLintoch Street North. Trip was the reverse of that advertised –to avoid peak traffic through Tawa; and the doing the trip this way round was more bikeable. with 4 members.
Sunday
Michelle Dickson led a circuit in the Eastern Hutt Hills, starting In fine weather from Mawson St, up to Old Farm Road and Leighton's Gully to the ECNZ Road. The tiny creek beside the Leighton Gully Track was mostly bone dry until near the top of it, where a few little pools survived by natural damming. The ECNZ Road is now showing good signage for the Waiau Mountain bike tracks and the original Spoon Hill track has become a 'downhill only' part of these. We encouraged a couple of bikers to head off before us, and kept a good watch on our tail. A short road walk along Parkway Rd took us into the newly developed Parkway Rise subdivision and up towards the Round Hill reservoir and our lunch spot. It was pleasant to be on the Konini Firebreak with such dryness underfoot and the ever increasing regrowth of the bush around. Our descent was through the Haywards Reserve on the Konini Saddle and Ngapunga Tracks to Whites Line East, with 6 members and 1 non-member.
Weekend
Jeanette Martin led a Roaring Stag trip and four members enjoyed the overnight trip into Roaring Stag this weekend. Great weather. We had the hut to ourselves. A couple of guys and their dog tented nearby, with 4 members.
Peter Elder organise the annual Lodge food stocking at Whakapapa. A highly successful weekend in lovely weather, with 16 members.
Summary
Total 49 members and 1 non member
