WEDNESDAY MEDIUM - PUKEATUA
A wet but enjoyable day, returning by an interesting route down a spur from 710 to a point upstream of the big slip in the Waiotaru River. Fresh scones and homemade jam at Maurie and Fleur Perry's home was a great way to end the trip.
YOUNG FAMILIES SKI WEEK
Average of 12 people per night. Had four fantastic days, with lots of sun, before the weather packed up. Five children took part in the primary school champs.
MEDIUM/FIT SATURDAY TRIP:
Wandered around in the fog from the South Mangone road end, and had difficulty identifying spurs. Visited Kapakapanui Hut. (7 members)
MEDIUM SATURDAY TRIP:
Trip changed to Kaitoke Regional Park. Had an interesting climb to Bump 582, then followed track to Warrens Saddle and down the road to the secret hut for lunch. Climbed up to 593, then out to the road and down Brown Track. (6 members)
SKI 2:
Saturday was a full day of skiing all over the mountain, but Sunday only the lower mountain was open. 27 people, including instructors and instructees. A great time had by all.
WORK PARTY TO FIELD AND KIME HUTS:
It was very cold at Field Hut on Saturday, with old snow lying around. A very successful work party. They put a dropper in the toilet, cut up firewood, cleaned up the hut, cut the grass, cleaned out the spouting and the water tank and plugged the leaks. (7 members and 2 non members).
RIMUTAKA INCLINE CYCLE OR WALK - FAMILY GROUP:
Five families took part - half cycled and half walked. A 4 year old cycled up to the first tunnel and back. Good weather. (8 adults and 11 children)
EASY SUNDAY TRIP:
Unfortunately the train to Woburn turned into a bus. A very pleasant walk along the ridge to Days Bay. Caught the 3 pm ferry just before the southerly hit. (20 members, 2 non members)
