Wednesday
E Trip ‘Makara Beach – Gun Emplacements’ led by Lois Kluger, Wed 12/4
Walked around beach and up walkway track usual great views, a little sun shower not much wind! Back the same way. Four members and one visitor. Interesting cows courtesy of Alan Benge.
EM Trip ‘Days Bay, Gollans Stream’ led by Michele Dickson, Wed 12/4
In fine weather with no rain, 9 members [and 1 non member] had an enjoyable day in the Gollans Valley. We took the route from the top of the Kereru Tk down into the stream a little upstream of the 'S' bend and made our way along the streamside trapping route to the main forks. A few pauses to find the routes, some fresh windfalls and the notable, recognisable drops and crossings made the day interesting. After lunch and the main forks we climbed to the main ridge and ambled down the Korimako Track back to Days Bay.
All ‘Pigeon Bush Track Cutting’ led by Franz Hubmann, Wed 12/4
4 members cleared several hundred metres of overgrown track at Pigeon Bush Reserve , just south of Featherston, today. Weather was good.
Weekend
MF Multi Trip ‘Ruahine-Stanfield Hut, Cattle Creek Hut, A-Frame Hut’ led by Paul McCredie, Sat 15-Sun 16/04
The weekend trip travelled north to the Ruahines, taking in a loop around A Frame, Stanfield and Cattle Creek Huts. Cycle Gabrielle has wrecked total destruction on the picturesque Tamaki River but the tracks were all in good condition as were the huts. Plenty of roaring (some of it Susi) was heard but fortunately no one was shot. Three members.
E/M Trip ‘Mt Kaukau/Skyline’ led by Tricia Walbridge Sun 16/4
I led the easy/medium club trip today up to Mt Kaukau and along the Skyline track. It was a stunning day with not a breath of wind - even the West Wind turbines weren't moving! As a result there were quite a lot of people up there, walkers and mountain bikers.
But unfortunately I had only 3 people, all Club members, joining me on the trip, with a further 2 having to pull out at the last minute. And 2 of the 3 who came had to leave us at Mt Kaukau because of another Club related commitment. They were both very experienced Club members so I was quite comfortable with them returning early.
But the remaining 2 of us continued along the Skyline to the top of the Chartwell Drive 4 WD track, returning by the same route, and a coffee and chat at Cafe du Parc afterwards.
With such a glorious day it was a shame there wasn't a bigger turnout to enjoy the stunning weather and views.
Total 22 members and 2 non members in the hills.
