In December and January there have been many trips; but most recently:
Wednesday 18th – Thursday 19th, Remutaka ridgeline from Papatahi to .830, Overnight stay at Waerenga Hut on 18 January, SF, Janette Roberts Topo Map
Six members walked in to Waerenga on Tuesday evening and had a very pleasant evening. We left the hut at 7am and completed a circuit walking upriver to climb the Papatahi crossing then turn south along the Remutaka ridge and drop back from .830 to the river. After a hot drink and a wee break, we headed back to the cars. 11 hours.
Wednesday 26th Matthews on the side, SF, Colin Cook Topo Map
Five members scaled an obscure ridge on Matthews' west face, encountering scrub, lawyer, wind and rain as they did so. Cloud was down to about the height of South Saddle so no views on offer either. A 10-hour round trip with most of the time (seven hours) spent simply getting in to and out from the area of interest.
Wednesday 26th Porirua, Titahi Bay circuit, M, Paddy Gresham Topo Map
25 members joined Paddy Gresham on another leg of the journey from Waikanae to Wellington along the west coast. The trip went around the Whiteria Peninsular to Titahi Bay and then climbed through Pikarere Farm into the Porirua Reserve and back to the Porirua Railway station. It was a long, varied and interesting walk. “Exhausting but satisfying” was one verdict.
Saturday 29th M, a Smith creek Spur, Dave Reynolds Topo Map
Fine warm conditions ,bush very dry. The gorse on the Puffer Saddle to Smith Creek track has been cut. Thanks Derrick Field . There were 2 members on the trip
