Mt Wainui: Whareroa Farm Park, SF, David Ogilvie
Topo Map
Seven members started from Whareora Farm Park, headed up the Cairn track,
reaching Campbell Mill Rd. Then we proceeded to the old marshalling yards
for morning tea. After tea we followed a disc-ed track to the summit of Mt
Wainui (722 m), reaching it in 3 h 20 from the car park. We headed back
after lunch, taking 1 h 10 to get back to the old marshalling yards. We
turned off Campbell Mill Rd just before the top of the climb and went down a
long spur to the track beside the stream, making it a 7 h day.
Eastern Hutt Hills, MTB, John Dement
Topo Map
Four intrepid mountain bikers spent a leisurely five and a half hours enjoying perfect weather on the eastern hills of the Hutt Valley.
The trip started by ascending the Te Whiti riser on to the NZED pylon road. We followed the pylon road along the ridge line and down the ridge between Stokes Valley and the Silverstream tip. The Hutt River trail was used to Taita where we changed to the Beltway Cycleway that took us back to the start at Te Whiti Park.
A great ride for winter as the ride is on a mud free surface for most of the journey.
