Helen Grey led a Porirua and Puatahanui harbours trip. The weather was kind and they had a good time. They finished a bit early as the cold southerly arrived, but still felt 13 km was a good walk, with 13 members
Joan Basher led a Whakanui track – Turere Spur – MecKerrow trip, from Sunny Grove via point 711 to the Orogorongo River then following the wet weather track downstream, to Haurangi Hut. Here they lunched while rain poured down. Rain stopped as they left to continue along the track until about 5 minutes before it ends. At that point entering the bush to start a short, level sidle to meet Turere Spur track, easily identified with bright pink markers. An hour and a half climb reached the end of the spur track to re-join the Whakanui track, where they used the lower winding loop to head homeward, Nine hours of tramping and 1100 m of height gained, with 12 members
Saturday
Chris Munn led 4 hardy clubbies chose to ignore a dire weather forecast on Saturday and set off from Rangituhi Cres to complete a figure of 8 trip around Rangituhi Colonial Knob. The forecasters were right, we enjoyed a cold wet southerly blast into our faces as we circumnavigated Rangituhi. Fantastic views of the insides of endless clouds added to the enjoyment, views that we did not have to share with anyone else. Vital statistics: 5 hours elapsed time, 14 km, 940 m total ascent, zero views. Perfect. You are lucky to be seeing a message sent by Chris using two old baked bean cans that are connected with some recycled sisal cord. What a guy! with 4 members
Sunday
Michele Dickson led 5 members, all wrapped up warmly who enjoyed the Tawhai St Tk, ECNZ Rd, Naenae Ridge, Holborn circuit from Stokes Valley shops. The weather was mostly good with some sun. However, just as we had sat down for morning tea we were bombarded with hailstones from one of the "occasional showers" mentioned the weather report., with 5 members
Weeeknd
Russel Cooke led a trip up the old Blyth track on the South side of Ruapehu to arrive at the Lupton hut just as the forecast rain began. Following wood gathering and lunch the group continued up the mountain past Blyth hut until the wind (along with the sleet) made further progress untenable. They returned to the hut for dinner and shelter. The wind changed during the night to the east and snow covered the ground as the party woke in the morning. The trip out had some challenges as the stream crossings involved rock that were covered with ice. Lunch was at Ohakune before the trip back to Wellington, with 5 members
Total 51 members and 1 non-member
