Sunday

Michelle Dickson led a circuit over Maunganui starting from the Maungakotukutuku Valley. As is usual for this circuit, the 2 cars were parked at the suitable flat area about 1.5km along the valley from the "quad" corner. After negotiating the fast growing Himalayan honeysuckle and gorse, we got over the stream and swamp into the bush and soon picked up the track. The day was rapidly warming, the cicadas singing, and we were pleased to have the shade of the bush. Lunch was at the 2nd open patch in with no wind at all. Everything was very dry of course, and even the track bogs before the summit had all but dried out. Descending via bump 620 to the junction with the old game farm track was pleasant but the foot pad was becoming a little overgrown in places. At the bottom, the swamp was largely bypassed for a quick exit back to the road and short walk to the cars, with6 members
