Tramping Reports Wednesday 2011 Jul 27 to Tuesday 2011 Aug 02
Wednesday:
Dave Gobey's BBB trip, Strathmore to Poiti Pa, attracted a large group of 16 members and 2 non-members. There was a strong NWly, fortunately behind them or sheltered most of the way. They had fine views of the snowy Kaikouras, the Seaward in sun, the Inland under cloud.
Diane Head led an E/M trip up Harvey's Track from the Old 5 Mile track to the River to McKerrow Track. There were still handfuls of snow near the top, and a chilly breeze. 4 1/2 hour tramp over a variety of bush. 9 members, 2 non members
Bill Stephenson led a M trip to Puke Ariki. It was cold, with snow on Boulder Hill. Good company: 14 members, 1 non-member. They found a sheep stuck in a bog up to its neck; it took 5 people to get it out.
Sunday:
Lyn Taylor led an E/M trip Days Bay to Butterfly Creek and return. 5 members + 1 dog enjoyed sunny weather with good views of a calm harbour and snow on the South Island Mountains.
Colin Cook's Saturday M/F off-track trip ran on Sunday due to as it turned out quite unrealised doubts about Saturday’s weather. Five members enjoyed some steep country east of Hendersons ridge in the Pukeatua area. The weather was fine.
Total 49 members and 5 non members (and one dog).
