Tramping Reports Wednesday 2010 Sept 29 to Tuesday 2010 Oct 4
Wayne Griffen's Wednesday medium trip had 6 members and early showers as he led the party on his own by-ways in the Waikawa valley.
The lodge was full to over-full most nights. Weather not so flash. Had one and a half days of clear blue sky and no wind and superb skiing. Kids were out everyday despite the weather. Tuesday was a stunner so about 15 TTCers made the trek to the crater and skied down on fantastic corn snow. Some of the teens climbed up under Paretetaitonga and skied from there.
Four members ascended Mt Hector to scatter Phil Barton's ashes at the summit. Friday night at Kime, Saturday night at Elder Hut and returned via northerly spur from bump 925 on Elder ridge to Waiotauru Forks and out the Otaki Forks. Wx fine, great views,
Dave Bartle' medium trip into Mick and Taungata Maunga peaks had 6 members and 3 non-members for a good day with great views.
Five members went on an unscheduled M/F Saturday day trip into the Waikawa and the head of the West Waitewaewae up onto Waitewaewae peak. Very greasy under foot. Someone (not DoC) is cutting the track from the road end to Waitewaewae peak. At the moment the track is a 2m wide swathe most of the way.
On Sunday Sue Cuthbertson led 13 members and 2 non-members through the secret ways of Newlands. The adventure started when they twice lost cars from the funeral procession to NewLands from the meeting pointin Stout street. When they finally arrived at the start point they were immediately joined by two car loads of Police who were investigating reports of gun shots in the area. The rest of the trip went to plan, visiting such places as Lawson track, Brandon Rock, Miles Crescent Reserve, Malvern Rd, Dungarvin Rd. 5 hour trip
