Tramping Reports – Wednesday 30.11.05 to Tuesday 6.12..05

The Wednesday cycling trip explored new sections of the Hutt River Trail and adjacent areas in the Upper Hutt area. Three members.

Pip Newton lead a group of 13 members into Herepai Hut for Saturday night. They had the hut to themselves after an advance party warned another group of the impending invasion by TTC. Unfortunately it was too windy to venture up to Ruapai, but they had an enjoyable time.

The weather on Holdsworth forced the medium trip to go up to Jumbo via the Aituwhakatu track, and retreat via the northern track down. Two members.

The Saturday medium group of five members left the track above Dobsons Shelter and found the headwaters of the south fork of the Marchant Stream, which they followed through some rough country to the main forks. They then climbed up to the old Marchant track and down to the Tauherenikau, coming out along the Smiths Creek track, after a good day.

The off track group of five members had an interesting day in the East Whakanui area.

On Sunday, seven members and five non-members found their way from Percys Reserve to the Korokoro Dam, and up onto Belmont Trig, where it was extremely windy.

And, seven members spent the weekend wrecking the kitchen of the Tararua Tramping Club Lodge, ready for the refurbishment.
