Ski Week
Stephen Thompson had a party of twelve up at TTC Lodge from August 7 - 12. They had snow on four out of five nights, but the mountain looked most attractive and they were able to ski each day. Thursday was simply splendid.
Day Trips
Diana Barnes took twenty-one (including three non-members) for a pleasant amble round the tracks in Wilton Bush on Wednesday 10. They lunched in Karori cemetery and had an early finish.
Neil Challands’ M/F Saturday party of four went off-track exploring in the Orongorongo. They trudged up the middle spur in Browns Stream, along the range and back to the river via the spur to the south of Browns Stream. They also had a brief look into the headwaters of both the Mukamuka and the Tapokopoko Streams.
Also on Saturday 13, Michael Bartlett had eleven members on his Medium trip. They went from Tunnel Gully up to the ridge near Point 614, down to Goat Rock, along the Incline Road, and via a little-known route back up to 614. It was a six hour round trip in fine, breezy conditions. Michael says everyone enjoyed themselves and went well; people, he thought, laughed more than usual!
On Sunday 14 Jim Peebles took fourteen, including six non-members, on his E/M trip into Smith Creek and the Tauherenikau Valley. He said there was a nice variety of people in his party. They lunched in the sun by the river but shortly afterwards it began to hail. The party made a dash for the Shelter and, despite thunder on their way out, no one got really wet. By the time they got to the Puffer Saddle it was fine again. (A seasoned Club member on this trip said they all had a good time and he was impressed by Jim’s leadership.)
Longer Trip
The M/F Northern Crossing to be led by Mike Wespel-Rose (562-6341) which was to have been from August 12 - 14 is postponed until September 2 - 4.
Sixty-two people ( forty-six members and sixteen non-members) took part in TTC expeditions this week.
