Tramping Reports Wednesday 2009 Mar 24 to Tuesday 2009 Mar 30
Wednesday:
David Ogilvie's M/F trip did not take the planned route due to the weather forecast. Instead they went to Tutewai Hut and return. On the way back they had a tremendous thunderstorm and downpour as they were going up Smith's Creek valley. The track quickly became a stream. 3 members.
Stu Hudson ran an E/M trip to Battle Hill, with 4 members. They did the Puketiro loop (to the ridge-line), and also the shorter loop. Weather was not bad though strong winds in the open.
Judith Claridge's BBB to Eastbourne Dunes did not run as Judith plans to run it next weekend.
Weekend:
Vicki Wogan's Waiopehu trip did not run due to lack of interest.
Stu Hutson's Whanganui Bay Rock Climbing did not run due to lack of interest.
Bushcraft 3 – Off Track Experience Malcolm Cunningham 232 3695 - no reply
Saturday:
David Castle led an on-track OTE to Smiths Ck - Block XVI - Marchant. However, the track up the true right of the Tauherenikau is becoming over-grown and that coupled with wash-outs made for a slow trip to the bottom of the climb. The roots and extensive mud along the Marchant Ridge and out from Dobsons made the trip slower and a little less enjoyable than anticipated. 4 members.
Kerry Popplewell led 8 members and 1 non-member on a circuit from the bottom of Ngaio Gorge, taking in Tinakori Hill, Kelburn, the Karori Cemetery, and the Skyline Walkway (M). Having discarded 2 members after coming off Crows Nest into Ngaio, they then picked up a member and a dog in Trellisick Park. So they left on 18 legs and came back on 20. Fine weather, great views, and good company.
Sunday:
On Tricia Walbridge's trip to Butterfly Creek, 7 members enjoyed a lovely trip in beautiful weather.
