Trip Reports – Wednesday 2.11.05 to Tuesday 8.11.05

Wednesday Medium: 13 members started up the old Waiopehu track to Bushy Corner, then down a marked route to the Makaretu River, and out along the river; an 8 hour trip.

Wairarapa Cycling: Based in Carterton, six members cycled a 60 km loop on Saturday in blustery winds. They saw lots of scarecrows and found good pub for lunch.

Saturday Medium: Holdsworth Creek Forks to Powell Hut. Three members enjoyed this trip.

Off Track Exploration: From the Mangatarere road end, up a spur on to Waiohine Peak, then down to Sayers Hut for lunch, returning via the normal track. Very windy and cool on the top. 7 members.

Kotumu: On Sunday a group of six nationalities took 6½ hours to complete the trip from the Wainuiomata Coast Road. Unfortunately there was thick mist for most of the trip. 9 members, 4 non members.

Family Group: An enjoyable trip along the Orongorongo track, up to Cattle Ridge and back down the Butcher track. 6 adults and 4 children.

Junior Family Group: Makara Beach was the chosen destination for 8 adults and 8 children. They walked along the beach and went a little way up the hill. It was a little windy but everyone enjoyed themselves.
