Wednesday
On Wednesday 27 Russel Gordon led 13 members on an interesting trip in the Valley View Forest area. He had permission to go up through Rallywoods (near the end of Bulls Run Road) so the party were able to cross the ridge line (having stopped for morning tea outside the 4WD Green Hut) before dropping down past a large decaying woolshed to McGhie's Bridge in the Karapoti. After lunch they then returned off-track over a low saddle to the Whakatikei, went down the river for a way, and then back on logging roads to the end of Bulls Run Road. It was a long trip with a real mix of travel and something new for everyone except the leader - plus clematis and tarata in flower. Merran Lewis had 14 (11 members and 3 others) with her on her weekend Easy trip from the Walls Whare site into Totara Flats. The Waiohine and the streams were up on Saturday, but Sunday was "just perfect" and Merran thinks the river was two feet lower.
Saturday
There were 7 out on the Medium Saturday trip Bruce and Kerry Popplewell led from the end of South Mangaone Rd via the Saddle Route to the track above Kapakapanui Hut. It was damp and a bit dismal at the start, but Michael Bartlett "cranked up" the sun and by lunch time it responded - intermittently at least. The party returned to Mangaone Rd via the track and were somewhat surprised, when this emerged into the area being logged, to find Bob Cyffers having a late lunch before he headed in the opposite direction.
Sunday
On Sunday Michele Dickson had 11 (9 members and 2 others) on her Easy trip over in the Wainuiomata valley. They made a pleasant circuit of the Fitzherbert Road area and came out on a track new to those with her.
Family
Also on Sunday, Andy Foster had an assortment of 29 adults and children (in a ratio of 16:13) on his pre-schooler Family trip in the Karori Sanctuary. They had lots of sun, saw lots of birds and enjoyed a very pleasant picnic - and they did do some walking!
Cycling
Lastly Andreas Kubisch tells me that although the proposed weekend cycling trip to the Wairarapa Fun Ride did not take place, there were a number of TTC members who took part on the day.
Total
There were 61 members and 13 others out on TTC trips this week.
