Presenter's guide to using the file viewers for presentations
This guide explains how to use the file viewing software to display photos, show movies, and listen to audio, as part of a talk. It assumes that photos files are in a folder and are ordered by name.

Images presentation
If presenting photos from a folder instead of a PowerPoint presentation, the photos will display in alphabetical order of the image name
- image names will need to have been named with dates e.g. yyyy-mm-dd hh.ss, or numbers e.g. 001, 002, 003 etc, (not 1, 2, 3 otherwise the slides will be shown in the order 1, 10-19, 100, 2, 20-29, 200 etc)
Photos app
Recommended
- open (double click) the first image in the folder, by default this will open in the Photos app
- on the bottom right look for the full screen control (see illustration)
- then you can use the keyboard or presenter to change images
- press escape to exit full screen mode
File Explorer Slide Show
- select (single click) the first image in the folder
- the File Explorer Picture Tools ribbon menu will appear
- click "Slide show"
- the slide show defaults to play
- on the image selected the context menu (click with right mouse button)
- click on "Pause"
- then you can use the keyboard or presenter to change images
- press escape to exit full screen mode
FastStone image viewer
Recommended
- select the context menu (click with the right mouse button) for the first image in the folder
- click on the "Open with" located about half way down the menu
- click on "FastStone Image Viewer"
- the image opens in full screen view
- then you can use the keyboard or presenter to change images
- press escape to exit FastStone Image Viewer
Mac OS X Preview or Quick Look
This method can be used when sharing the full screen on a Google Meet
- open the folder of your presentation in Preview
- type Shift + Command + F to enter full screen mode
- pause the presentation and then use the left and right cursor keys to change the image
- you could also try using Quick Look
- in Quick Look click the full screen button
Viewing movies
- by default movies open in full screen and play automatically using the default "Films & TV" app.
- you can play movies using "VLC Media Player" from the movie file's context menu
Playing audio
- by default audio files open and play automatically using the default "Groove Music
- you can play music using "VLC Media Player" from the audio file's context menu
