Tararua Club Youth Programme - OTua Information Sheet
The Tararua Tramping Club has a youth programme, that encourages students 14 and upwards to get involved in outdoor adventures. The club has decided to introduce students, within the programme, to three of its sports: Rock climbing, Tramping and Skiing.
The club takes students on two trips with no expectation on the student to join the club. Thereafter, if they are still interested in the programme/trips, they are expected to join the club, at the lower youth programme rate of $35. They, of course, can join the club straight away if they wish, this will see them selected for trips before non-club members, be able to get discounts from a number of adventure shops, use club gear, and other stuff.
On Tramping trips, the kids are encouraged to organise the trip, look after each other and to lead the trip as best they can. This helps them grow as individuals, to be aware of the environment and others around them. The club provides instructors who keep an eye on the activities, provide training sessions and help the student with buying the right tramping gear.
The weekend the students want to Tramp in the Tararuas, they have yet to select the destination. The instructors will moderate the trip destination depending on a number of factors; weather, who's coming and their fitness, etc.
The cost of the trip are kept at a minimum and cover the hut tickets ($5.00), food, petrol for the trip. The club’s instructors have volunteered their time.

If you have not joined the club, you must complete the consent form, to go on this trip, download consent form and e-mail to the address below.
The standard meeting point for drop offs and pickups is station 9 at the Wellington Railway Station. Please make sure the student gets there 5 minutes before the stated leaving time.
The programme likes parents to get involved. One way to do this is to help with transport. If any parents are interested in joining us on the tramp and they have tramped before, they would be more than welcome.
Note to parents, relatives or friends of members on Club trips:
Should a party be late in returning, please do not worry unduly as this is common and there are probably good reasons for their delay.
