Year 9 tramping trip to Waerenga Hut
9-10 April 2022
On 9 April, 21 year nine students and five adults embarked on a two-day tramp in the Ōrongorongo Valley. It was a great experience for year nines who were keen to give tramping a go and wanted an opportunity to explore their own backyard. We stayed at Waerenga Hut, which, as named, is located in a quaint clearing by a small rock-strewn valley. After a night of roasting marshmallows and trying to figure out who was snoring, we departed the hut and went up the Cattle Ridge Track. Some of the group found this hard going. As we emerged from the cover of the trees and neared the top, we were presented with stunning scenery and picturesque views of the valleys and rolling hills below us. After finishing the tramp, we all celebrated with chips at the local golf club. Thank you, Mr Pancha, for that! Overall, it was an amazing adventure and we would like to thank parents Jess and Aaron, teachers Jordan and Mr Pancha, Tararua Tramping Club for use of your lovely hut and Ann Matthews who is a member of the club.
