Kaitoke exploration M/F
Wednesday 8 December 2021
The intended trip down the Eastern Hutt Gorge to Hutt Forks was disappointingly but Eastern Hutt River Photo: David McNabb postponed as the river was in flood. Instead, we went off track up a spur to Quoin Ridge. From there we descended to Hutt Forks where again we were unable to cross. So it was back to the bridge and then back along on the other side to the Forks from where we hoped to climb up towards the saddle and along to .583 and down to the cars. However poor communication meant the party got split up during the off-track section back to the Forks. The delay in reuniting meant we headed more directly home via a gorse-covered spur, which led back up to the ‘golden road’. We then returned to the cars down Norbett Creek Track. 10hrs.
