Part Southern Walkway E

Perfect early winter weather greeted our group of fifteen as we started from Carlton Gore Road, Oriental Bay.
A combination of magnificent views and highly-priced real estate was seen on our way up the Southern Walkway. Reaching a spot near Richard Byrd memorial, we had morning tea to celebrate our victorious ascent of Mt. Victoria.
After lunch, the intrepid trampers had fun descending little-known shortcuts, secret stairways and secluded side streets wandering through suburban Hataitai.
We enjoyed a pleasant lunch by the boat harbour at Greta Point, watching seagulls and planes taking off from the airport. Afterwards, we meandered around Evans Bay Parade towards Point Jerningham.
The leader called for volunteers to climb the 365 steps from Maida Vale Road to Grafton Road. Not all came, but those who did were rewarded with leafy views of Roseneath looking East across to the Miramar Peninsula.
An alfresco cafe stop at Beach Babylon restaurant in Oriental Bay marked the end of a very satisfying day out.
