An Age-Diverse Traverse of Travers
30th May – 2nd June, 2020
Paul Maxim sent this poem by Jack O’Carroll:
The group of nine set out across Lake Rotoiti,
With Hamish telling them of the five species of beech trees,
Up summit creek to a high camp on tussock,
Under Travers’ shadow and the scree slopes that lead to it,
A scramble up bluffs and a bit of a climb,
Over scree, rock and patchy snow while the weather stayed fine,
The age-diverse bunch knocked it off by lunch,
And picked their way down the northern couloir,
Knowing the John Tait would not be too far.
