Easy-Medium Trip to Orange Hut

4th March

Starting from the carpark at Whareroa Farm, we ascended the Catchment View Track to Campbell’s Mill Road and on to Hydro Road. We returned the same way but used the downhill mountain bike track.

The Big Fail! We got within 200 metres of Orange Hut and were prevented from proceeding as the river was high, with a good flow and the possibility of algal slime. We were not prepared to take the risk of crossing, so had lunch close by. There had been some heavy rain in the area during the night. Most participants want the trip rescheduled for the next fixture card.

It should be noted that the Regional Council have contractors logging the pines at the top and to the west of Campbell’s Mill Road, so that area is closed to the public at this stage.
