Newtown Circuit EM
Wednesday 25 March 2015
Five members, one non-member and Dougal, the miniature schnauzer, climbed from the hospital to meet the City to Sea walkway above Newtown. There we had a whiteout: council painters had seconds before painted the handrail and most of us ended up with white acrylic on our clothes and hands. Foraging moments ....wild curly parsley, watercress and a field mushroom. Perfect walking weather: cool, slight breeze, sun and cloud. We made good time and had lunch at Island Bay around 12.40pm.
Then up Houghton Bay Road by the bush track, on to the Southern Walkway, over Mt Albert, past the zoo, back to the bus stop at Crawford Road at 2.49pm, in time for the gold carders to catch a free ride back to town.
Total time, including lunch, 5 hours. Excellent day's walking.
