Tramping Reports Wednesday 2011 Sep 28 to Tuesday 2011 Oct 04

Wednesday: BBB Wednesday trip – 6 + 1

Went from Massey University, around all the nooks and crannys of Mount Cook, over to Highbury, down to Aro Valley then up to Brooklyn Heights, via Penthouse theatre for a coffee then down again to Massey for a round trip. Fab weather all the way, great views and good time had by all; a very pleasant outing.

Medium Wednesday Trip - 6

Despite a cluster of recent visits to this area having induced some Marchant burn-out syndrome, six club members went on this trip to visit the other Marchant forks – two clearly defined forks in the easternmost major tributary of Marchant Stream. They found rough going in steep country where three kilometres of off-track travel down hill took over four hours.

Easy/Medium Wednesday trip – 26 + 2

Manganui Peak in the Mangakotukutuku Valley – Wonderful views of Kapiti Island and the coast from the top, magnificient trees on the way down. A great trip.

Weekend: Medium Saturday trip - 5

On Saturday 5 members climbed Makaka spur to Cone ridge before dropping down to Neil Forks hut. It rained through the night but had stopped in the morning in time for the party to cross Neil stream and climb Neil spur. The party returned to Walls Whare via Cone with the rain only setting in as the arrived back at the car.

E/M Sunday trip - 4

With a weather forecast not that good - managed only four members to enjoy a great calm and sunny/cloudy trip along the Raumati Escarpment. Managed to cross a section of private land, which made the trip easier and more interesting. Had a relaxing lunch in Kaitawa Reserve (Paraparaumu) then a long slog up to the Escarpment for a completion of 4 1/2 hour total trip Headed into Paraparmumu for coffees and muffins at a local cafe before heading back into Wellington All had an enjoyable and dry, wind free trip

M Saturday trip – 4 + 1

Went up Vera’s Track behind Waerenga Hut in the Orongorongo Valley to the ridge, and back. Beautiful views.
