Tararua Lodge is a warm comfortable ski lodge situated some distance from the Top of the Bruce Road. GPS co-ordinates: 1820807.14, 5653092.69, at an altitude of 1764m, refer topo map below for walking route. Facilities at the lodge include a modern kitchen, drying room, bathroom facilities with hot showers.
When staying at the lodge you will need at least the following
- sleeping bag
- pillowcase
- fresh food (contact the trip leader for details)
- own towel and toiletries
- warm clothes
Tararua Lodge is situated in an alpine environment and a blizzard or snow can occur at any time of year. In fact in extreme weather it may not be possible to leave or get to the lodge (but don't let this put you off, it rarely occurs). None the less if you haven't been there before it is recommended that you should go with someone familiar with the lodge your first time.
To get to get lodge please bring
- pack
- good footwear, suitable for rocky travel or snow and ice
- wind and water proof parka
- warm clothes
- hat, gloves, and snow goggles or sun glasses
- headtorch (mandatory)
- over trousers
- suitable equipment for your proposed activity (tramping boots, walking poles, skis / snowboard, boots, helmet, ski crampons, avalanche transceivers, PLB, crampons, ropes etc)
