Hi there!
Peter was a TTC member from 2005 until his untimely death in 2022. He tramped with the club back in the early 80s. He said he really like the history of the institution, the people, and the wild places that we get to in our travels.
Peter served the club in many roles as President, Bushcraft coordinator, Trip Leader, Weekly Activity reporter, Musical Director, and on the Social Committee.

Tramper notice
Tragically for his family, friends, and tramping acquaintances, Peter Barber died at home in 2022. We were deeply saddened to hear of his sudden and unexpected death.
Peter contributed so much to the Tararua Tramping Club and our collective wellbeing with his collegial approach to life. He brought his enthusiasm to everything he did.
He was renowned for finding ways to introduce music into a range of tramping events. His enthusiasm for music was evident in many club events. We think of him leading us in song at Christmas club nights and on other occasions, including our centenary dinner.
Peter was always willing to tackle new things and stepped very successfully into the Bushcraft Leader role with his usual enthusiasm and ability to do things a bit differently from past practice (to the benefit of those participating). Bushcraft courses were always fun with Peter at the helm. This also was true of his work on the Social Committee over many years, his cheerful hosting and trip reports on club nights, his camaraderie on trips, the “Barbercues”, and his years as Club President.
Peter always took his responsibilities very seriously. He prepared thoroughly, gave a lot of his time and energy, and contributed many years of service to the club.
You will be missed, Peter, and our thoughts are very much with Mary.
