The Clubrooms committee has asked Don Jamieson to investigate the options for improving a number of aspects of the clubrooms. Specifically this includes accessibility, fire protection, and structural compliance.
The initial step is to look at constructing wheelchair access to the clubrooms and a wheelchair toilet facility. Ninety per cent of the clubrooms income comes from rental and there is a need to provide these facilities for our tenants to ensure we have an income stream for the future.
The Clubrooms committee has favoured an option of bringing the main entrance to the south of the front foyer as this avoids the need for several ramps which would be required with the present entrance. See the diagrams below.
Next an assessment of the structural and seismic integrity of the building is required and an updated review of our fire safety requirements. There have been changes to the code in recent years and more stringent conditions are now required.
Once we have decided, we apply for resource consent. We will then assess the costs and benefits. Hopefully we can move forward but it may be that getting resource consent involves too much work or the costs are unaffordable to the club.
