Planting natives in our gardens
Tramping is about lots of things. In some way we enjoy that heavy pack and clear, defined goals. We enjoy the company of our fellows, and look forward to the cup of soup at the hut. Being there amid that wilderness is half the fun, and that it's the getting there that makes being there so significant.
Many trampers also like to have a bit of wilderness at home, photos, a rock or two maybe, and some of the trees that we've seen in the wild. If you'd like some ideas on what to plant, read on...

- do you live by the beach? Or up in the hills? Plants that are endemic to your area are better adapted than those that have evolved under other conditions. The Wellington Regional Council Native Plant guide is a good read.
