Lowry Bay to Ferry Road / Lyall Bay, Te Raekaihau Point, Mt Albert, Lyall Bay / Moonshine to Orange Hut / Ōtaki Forks area/Wharepapa Hut via East Whakanui and Papatahi Crossing tracks

Wednesday

Ramble ‘Harbour Ferry, Days Bay, Eastbourne’ led by Margaret Foden, Wed 17/12

E Trip ‘Lowry Bay to Ferry Road’ led by Michele Dickson, Wed 17/12 7M

In drizzly to dry conditions 7 members met and set off from Lowry Bay up the Cheviot Track. Parkas stayed on all day as the temperatures remained low, but the bush looked fantastic in the conditions. The steep pinch getting up to Lowry lookout seems to get steeper on both sides, but never remembered as any different in the mind. Being a short E trip, we were soon down to Ferry Road and into the pavillion for coffee. It was too late to see any TTC ramblers of course, but we did see a couple of TTC locals earlier, heading into the Gollans on a reccy. We enjoyed our day regardless of the weather

EM Trip ‘Lyall Bay, Te Raekaihau Point, Mt Albert, Lyall Bay’ led by Mary Kane, Wed 17/12

No report received.

M Trip ‘Moonshine to Orange Hut’ led by Robin Chesterfield, Wed 17/12 9M

The trip started from Cooks Road in Moonshine with a forecast of a wet trip. On gaining 400 meters through Robin's forest block and descending a marked route that emerged onto a large 4WD track heading North. En route we met a procession of vehicles from Greater Wellington out on a 4WD training session. There were a couple of River crossings before arriving at the Orange Hut for lunch. Fortunately, the heaviest rain came at this time. We returned by a different route along 4WD tracks in drizzle without getting drenched. There were nine members on the trip covering distance of 23 km and 920m uphill.

MF Trip ‘Ōtaki Forks area’ led by Anthony Hill, Wed 17/12

Cancelled due to weather.

F Trip ‘Wharepapa Hut via East Whakanui and Papatahi Crossing tracks’ led by Mike Voets, Sat 20 - Sun 21/12
