Thankyou, TTC Karen Kirkham and Julie Affleck, still current TTC members send greetings from Honiara in the Solomon Islands and invite TTC members to start planning a kayaking/tramping in the tropics. julieandkaren@solomon.com.sb -> mailto:julieandkaren@solomon.com.sb Hi, my wife and I are coming over to Wellington to see our eldest daughter next year. Looking for a couple of day or two day treks within reasonable driving distance - 50 miles?. Into hillwalking and scrambling but not really rock-climbing. We stay on Arran off the West coast of Scotland, and would be happy to show anyone around the hills we have here (best in Scotland)if you are ever over this way. Will check out your club itinerary nearer the time and hopefully manage along for a "tramp" Ta, Neil and Anne Gillies - brudair@btinternet [period] com -> mailto:brudair@btinternet [period] com. Hope you are having better weather than here - snow and gales!

Normally a guestbook looks different, e.g. not more than n posts are schown and old ones are accessible too. Hi HELP WITH SOUTHERN CROSSING INFO - MID-MARCH 2009 I am not a member. My son (32) and i (62) are coming to NZ/Aotearoa in March (from NSW) and i want to take him over the Southern Crossing - which i last did when i was a student at Nae Nae college. Rather than the grind of the Marchant Ridge i was thinking of either dropping down to the Tauherenukai Valley (if coming from Otaki Forks) or going up the valley first from Kaitoke and then climbing up to Alpha the next day. Any words of advice? Also, there was a track i never went on called something like "Block XV" or "XVI" which must have joined the Marchant Ridge from the Alloway Dickson hut. Is this correct and is it still in use/good condition as my ideal route would start at Otaki Forks and drop down the Block XV/XVI? track to avoid a river crossing. I really love the lower part of the valley, so it would combine the best part of the tops with the river. My school friends often tramped into the Tauherenukai Valley on Friday night to Dodsons (Dobsons?) or to the Tauherenikau hut near Smiths Creek (where Old Joe (Gibbs) used to reside) - both of which have gone as has our favourite haunt - Alloway Dickson - about an hour or so up the valley. These huts made it possible for teenages to go tramping - why they were removed and not replaced is a mystery to me. Bring them back i say. cheers Bruce Reyburn - email reyburn@mpx.com.au 2 Feb 2009 |
